Liza Soberano to Play Alexandra Trese on Netflix Original Anime Series

It was a pleasant surprise for Filipina actress Liza Soberano to participate on one of Netflix’s original anime series, Trese. The series will be adapted from the award-winning Philippine graphic novel with the same title and namesake.

Liza is set to play the role of the iconic character Alexandra Trese, an investigator who finds herself highly immersed on Manila where creatures from Philippine mythology and folklore mingle and live among mortal humans. Alexandra Trese then gets herself involved on a criminal underworld filled with malevolent supernatural beings.

The graphic novel written by Budjette Tan and KaJO Baldisimo, sheds new light to the classic supernatural stories of the existence of beings that we only hear from our grandmothers and folklores that used to only exist on the mere minds of townspeople. Because of its great execution of storyline, Netflix decided to adapt it on to their original series and therefore, will be performed in two languages—English and Filipino.

Fortunately, one of the most in-demand actress in the local showbiz scene was able to score the role for Trese. Netflix made an announcement on March 8 regarding the upcoming show, and proudly introduced the two lovely actresses who will portray the main character.

The series is set to be released in 2021 and was executively produced by Jay Oliva and Shanty Harmayn along with Tanya Yuson of BASE Entertainment from Jakarta and Singapore.

According to an interview with Jay Oliva, finding the perfect actress to take up the role of Alexandra Trese was tricky. And finding them in two lovely actresses received quite a praise from the producers and fans alike who are grateful for both of them bringing the character to life.

Along with Liza Soberano, American actress Shay Mitchell, from The Pretty Little Liars show and another Netflix original series YOU, shall portray the English version of the show. Liza was set to perform the Filipino translation of the series and fans couldn’t wait for the release of this upcoming, one-of-a-kind Pinoy animated series.

Jay himself also mentioned that when Liza was confirmed to play the character, he even said, “I am a big fan of hers and she fits the character so well.”

Liza also expressed her deepest gratitude, and likewise said that she was a big fan of the series as well and couldn’t wait to work on to this upcoming project.
